Njål Lunde (born 1973) is a Norwegian multidisciplinary artist based in Haugesund, on the west coast of Norway. He studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo from 1997 to 2001 and has since developed a broad and versatile artistic practice encompassing drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and animation.
Lunde’s work is characterised by a sustained interest in the dialogue between traditional and contemporary techniques. He frequently combines old and new processes within a single work, creating layered expressions that explore materiality, perception, and image-making. In his recent works, digital image processing is merged with historical photographic development techniques, while relief works bring together CNC milling and traditional wood carving. These hybrid methods reflect an ongoing investigation into how technological and handcrafted approaches can coexist and inform one another.
Throughout his career, Lunde has exhibited widely in Norway, with solo exhibitions at venues such as Haugesund Art Society, Gallery 21m² in Stavanger, Hå Gamle Prestegard, and the art societies of Bryne and Sandnes. He has participated several times in the annual Høstutstillingen in Oslo and taken part in group exhibitions including Inngang at Rogaland Art Center. In addition to his exhibition practice, Lunde has completed numerous public art commissions in cities such as Oslo, Bergen, Kristiansand, and Stavanger. His work has received awards and scholarships and is represented in both public and private collections.
