MIDTUN DOWLING

Midtun Dowling is an independent gallery,  centrally located in Nordnes, Bergen.

The gallery works across a broad range of artistic practices, with a strong emphasis on quality and authenticity.

Teaching sessions and lunches will take place in the gallery’s workshop space.

Øyvind Hjelmen’s exhibition Being Here will be on view at the gallery until 18 October.

THE WORKSHOP

The workshop will focus on each participant’s individual path towards developing their own photographic practice. The aim is to move your work forward, regardless of where you are starting from.

Over three engaging and intensive days, the programme will include lectures, one-to-one conversations, practical assignments and individual challenges.

At the heart of the workshop will be reviews and discussions of the participants’ own photographs made during the workshop.

All feedback will be tailored to the individual participant’s level, whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer.

Other key topics will include developing a photographic project, selecting images for a portfolio, and presenting your own work.

This is not a technical photography workshop. However, if anyone needs help becoming more familiar with their camera and its controls, time will be set aside for this.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Price: NOK 7,000, including lunch each day.

A deposit of NOK 2,000 must be paid shortly after registration and serves as confirmation of your place. The deposit is refundable only if the workshop has to be cancelled for any reason.

If you wish to work with film, developing chemistry is included in the price. Participants must bring their own film and negative sleeves. There will be no darkroom printing on photographic paper during the workshop.

The workshop begins on Thursday, 15 October, with teaching from 18:00–21:00, and concludes on Sunday, 18 October at 14:00.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, teaching begins at 09:30, with each day starting with a review of the participants’ photographs. The programme will include extensive input and discussion, as well as dedicated time for practical photographic work each day.

Friday and Saturday are expected to finish at approximately 19:00.

Further programme details will be announced following registration.

We look forward to welcoming you to a creative and inspiring long weekend in a unique setting.
